During your session

Our professional massage therapist will guide you through a series of passive stretches, similar to yogic stretching, and apply firm muscle compressions using their hands, forearms, elbows, knees and feet.  Thai massage is typically more vigorous than other forms of massage as the strong application of pressure assists in loosening and relaxing the muscles.

You may request light or medium pressure be applied if you find this style of massage to be too firm and your therapist will tailor the massage to meet your individual needs.

It is believed that Buddha’s physician, Jivaka Kumar Bhaccha, developed Thai massage over 2,500 years ago.   However, the history of Thai massage is more complex than the history of a single founder would suggest.  Thai massage is a combination of influences from Indian and Southeast Asian traditions of medicine, and the art as it is practiced today is likely to be the product of a synthesis of various healing traditions from all over the kingdom.  Today, there is considerable variation from region to region across Thailand, and no single routine or theoretical framework is universally accepted among healers.

Thai massage is known in Thailand as Nuat Boran [noo-aht bo-rahn].  It is rooted in the belief that all forms of life are sustained by a vital force called “lom” that is carried along pathways called “sen” that run through our bodies.  Thai massage is based on healing principles that focus on the circulation of this vital energy in the sen and these energy lines are manipulated, and important pressure points along these pathways are stimulated, to help break down blockages, stimulate energy flow and restore balance and harmony.

The practice of Thai massage is also a spiritual discipline since it incorporates the Buddhist principles of mindfulness and compassion.  A massage provided with awareness and sensitivity will feels totally different from one given in a mechanical or technical way.

Thai massage is suitable for clients of any age and gender. You can wear loose clothing during your massage to assist in comfort and free movement or be partially clothed. Oils and creams can be used as recommended by the therapist or as requested by the customer.
